QCF: Hot Gimmick: Cosplay-Jong for Nintendo Switch

e love ZeroDiv over here at Studio Mudprints. They have pretty much single-handedly made the Switch the best place for arcade shooting game action with a slew of digital and retail releases for a number of high profile mid-to-late nineties Psikyo arcade shmups. So it was kind of interesting to see something entirely different from ZeroDiv and Psikyo surface on the Nintendo eShop. After all, shooting games aren't the only titles Psikyo has done. One such game is Hot Gimmick: Cosplay Jong for Nintendo Switch (heretofore known simply as Hot Gimmick 'cause who has time to write all that?) a 1997 arcade Mahjong game with a decidedly Psikyo Twist.

Bullet Heaven, Episode 215 - Gunbird 2 for Nintendo Switch

e enjoyed Gunbird for Nintendo Switch, so when ZeroDiv brought Gunbird 2 to the platform, it was only natural that we had to take a look! Adding new elements to established formula, Gunbird 2 is a game that is better in every way than its direct predecessor... but how does it stack up?

In the credits:
Ikaruga (All+Switch)
Quad Fighter K (Switch)

Bullet Heaven, Episode 207 - Dragon Blaze for Nintendo Switch

Leave it to Zerodiv to release another nifty-neato shmup just a week after Tengai! Dragon Blaze was made in 2000 by Psikyo and adds all kinds of neat features and mechanics to the established Psikyo formula in great ways... But how does it stack up?

Bullet Heaven, Episode 206 - Tengai for Nintendo Switch

In episode 205 of Bullet Heaven, we were kind of hoping to check out Tengai for the Nintendo Switch. Instead, we got Sol Divide and it was... iffy. Thankfully, Tengai for Nintendo Switch was literally released directly after Psikyo's 1997 misstep; now we can see what a real psikyo sidescroller is all about. How does it stack up?

***ERRATA: At 0:46, it shows that the publisher is 2018, Headup Games. This is incorrect: Tengai is 2018, ZERODIV.***

Bullet Heaven, Episode 197.5 - Zero Gunner 2- Update

In episode 197, we took a look at Zerodiv's Zero Gunner 2-, a complete rebuild of the Psikyo Dreamcast and Namomi shmup, sans source code. It had issues that were already addressed, so we took a bold step and reviewed it as if the issues were fixed... and we were right on the money. The new Ver. 1.0.1 patch is live and fixes all of the main concerns we had of the game, which is seen and explained in this follow-up companion entry.

Bullet Heaven, Episode 197 - Zero Gunner 2-

Zerodiv has been bringing the goods to the Nintendo switch in awesome ways with a wide variety of Psikyo shmups from years past. Striker 1945, Gunbarich and Gunbird* have all seen release, but most interesting of all has to be Zero Gunner 2, a much beloved - and pricey - shooter released on Naomi hardware in arcades and subsequently to the Sega Dreamcast. Its source code was also lost. Adding a minus to the title, Zerodiv has rebuilt the whole game from scratch... so how does it stack up?
