echnical issues be damned because Press Pause Radio is stronger than any defective update or worn-out Graphics Card broken that’s crappy enough to try and stop us this late in the GAME.

This week, we decided to keep it chill, and catch everyone up with what we’ve been playing since our Golden Zonkies Special for 2021, along with throwing in our thoughts on the latest Nintendo Direct, and the subsequent Shutdown announcement for the Wii U/3DS eShop to cap it off.

Chairs for the week were Ed, Sean, and George as they gabbed on about Metroid Dread, Tatsujin, PC Denjin, Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker, Animal Crossing New Horizon, Arcade Archives, Phantom Gear, Grapple Dog, Darius Extra Version, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and so much more.

Next Week, we’re going to discuss the current climate of Massive Multiplayer Online Games, their history, and the blurred line between them and the burgeoning “Games as a Service” trend we’ve been seeing in this current generation—see you then!

PPR Presents The Golden Zonkies: Class Of 2021

e’ve wrapped up the second year of the Pterodactyl, Panini, Pizza Party, or whatever the hell else you prefer to call it and are now slugging into the Junior Year of Covid-19: Omicron Edition. It’s been another tough year for everyone, and the cast of Press Pause Radio is far from excluded to that sentiment; despite the extra hours we’ve all put into our day jobs that have inevitably taken away from some of the Content output we’ve usually put out for PPR, we’re still picking up plenty of steam for all of the fun stuff we have planned for 2022. The studio project George has undertaken a few years ago is nearing completion, which will definitely spell for some fun times for commitment for more Video Content in the near future.

But before we get into that, we’re here to kick-off the New Year with our Annual Golden Zonkies Show to commemorate our favorite titles released in 2021, including our Game of the Year!

In case y’all don’t remember the updated flow from the last couple of years, we have changed up our format and have done away with categories!  Now, bear in mind, we’re still giving our prestigious mark of excellence, a Golden Zonkey, to the games that are deserving of recognition, only, we’re not doing by a respective genre, or category. Instead, we will be giving them out in a personal list format by each of us in the podcast, and we’ll be spending time discussing why we picked the titles we did within a countdown of five. Normally we would have done a roundtable of games that were worth a quick mention from the year, but we decided to mention them in passing instead, along with some not-so-honorable-mentions (we also chose a few more not mentioned on the show to include in the post!) We will then award the “Golden Zonkey of The Year” in a unanimous vote that was similar to the previous format, and conclude the show from there.

QCF: Metroid Dread

ver time the Nintendo property lineup has operated as a stable of derby horses and their respective console launch being a race circuit for them to compete in. As the crowds pour in to back these figurative stallions with their money, there’s always been one Dark Horse in the stable that has straddled the line between stardom and obscurity—Metroid; a property that’s inspired droves of games, and yet has lied dormant for more than a decade between releases.

After the mild success of Samus Returns for the 3DS, Nintendo enlisted the studio MercurySteam once more for another 2D side-scrolling entry for the series, Metroid Dread, resurrecting the project for the Nintendo Switch years after its sordid past of setbacks and letdowns. Despite the baggage that the name comes with, however, this may be one of the best collaborations that Nintendo has ever achieved with another studio as Metroid Dread is not only one of the best games to have released this year—it stands to be the best entry of the 35-year-old franchise.

weet Baby Ray’s be damned because not even its thick and zesty power could mask the insect-like veneer of Jesse Esienberg’s most villainous character role. As the dust settles over Facebook’s transition to a Buzzword, there have been a certifiable crap-load of games to that we’ve been playing that we would love to share with all of you.

George, Andrew, and Sean are reporting in for this week to talk about Final Fantasy XIV: EndwalkerRikki & VikkiQuake RemasteredBack 4 BloodFar Cry 6SableRider’s RepublicHalo Infinite Multiplayer BetaMetroid Dread, and more! So grab your headphone, put on your trendy Halloween threads (we’re betting 9 to 1 that your costume’s based on Squid Game), and remember to keep six feet apart while listening to the latest episode of Press Pause Radio on your Trick-or-Treat Excursion!

ell, against many odds, E3 came and managed to show off what’s in store for the next-generation of video games while contending with the ongoing challenges of a pandemic that’s still wreaking havoc on our everyday lives.

While it’s easy to dismiss what may have arguably been one of the more humble presentations we’ve had in years, especially with it being the first year of new Next-Generation hardware, the fact  that we got as much as we did with Covid-19 being a present danger is a blessing in and of itself.  Anyway, if there was one thing, this E3 did have a ton of; it was chock loaded with C H A O S.

Anyway, we here at Press Pause Radio got together to record our impressions of the show and see which of our predictions came true as we broke down most of the presentations by order of appearance of the week to discuss a number of the games that were shown. The games we showed off were Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, Rainbow Six Extraction, Forza Horizons 5, Breath of the Wild 2, Metal Slug Tactics, Lake, Spirit Swap, Mushihimesama for Switch, Metroid Dread, Warioware Get it Together, Elden Ring, Starfield, Halo Infinite, and so much more.

Sit back, download the show, and get ready to blame Chaos for everything bad that has ever happened, like ever.
