QCF: New Super Mario Bros. U

Nintendo has always had a special charm that’s undeniably inherent in each of their releases, even if some of them are starting to show their age. The “New” within the title of Nintendo’s resurgence effort to bring Mario back into the side-scrolling platformer spotlight has been looked at with some skepticism, argued to some extent even that it’s hardly “new” to begin with. With the Wii U out of the gates, we’re treated to the breakout Mario launch title; New Super Mario Bros. U, and while the “New” argument still holds some weight, this latest installment manages to defy any jaded expectations.

PPR 67

Was Freecell ever on the Turbo Grafx 16? Eh, it doesn’t matter, because there are so many other games that are so much more worthy of your time. This week, the PPR crew gathers ‘round to discuss the 16-bit underdog with its Japanese counterpart hitting 30 years of age recently. On the way, James and George argue over the true merit of Assassin’s Creed III, Toast bids for an N-Gage to cheer him over his troubled Vita, and Ser hates on the Avengers and so much more.

If you guys have anything to share with us, email us at mailbag email, presspauseradio@gmail.com, or call us and leave a voicemail at 469-777-8255 (PPR-TALK) and get involved. Join our forums while you’re at it and may everyone enjoy their Thanksgiving!

Nintendo’s quote unquote “Next-Generation” console is dropping on Sunday and George is going to muck it through some lines to get his hands on one. Tune in around Sunday, November 18th, at 3:00 PM pacific time and join us in the chat on our Justin.TV account or settle in for the stream right here where George, Andrew, and Matt Jay get down on the get down and might have a couple of brews while they’re at it.

QCF: Halo 4

The Master Chief is back and is making his debut with 343 Studios behind all his covenant killing antics. With Bungie not being at the helm for the first time ever and Master Chief making his first appearance in five years the expectations for Halo 4 are high from fans. 343 is hoping to make a statement with the first game in its Reclaimer trilogy, and while 343 didn’t take many chances with this installment I would have to say that the result of 343’s hard work pays off with one of the best entries in the series.

QCF: Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

From the moment I booted up Assassins Creed: Liberation, and for the majority my play through, one word kept popping   into my head, wow. To say that it wowed me from the very beginning might make you excited at the prospect of a full Assassins Creed title that you can take with you on the go. And it is a full AC game all the way through with pointless side quests and rhythm based combat being all a part of the package. But sometimes when you say wow it’s not always a good thing.

QCF: Primal Carnage

Is it just me, or has there never been a truly great dinosaur game? Turok doesn't seem to hold up and the recent Jurassic Park game received poor reviews from both critics and fans alike. On the surface, this doesn't seem like a valid issue or concern. But when you think about it, these prehistoric creatures would make perfect cannon fodder for any videogame, and it's a damn shame that I can't think of any fantastic dinosaur-centered games.

Enter Primal Carnage, a first-person multiplayer Steam title that aims to give players the thrill of hunting and becoming the lethal predators that stalk various media. A thrill which, unfortunately, has a lot of problems scattered amongst its few fun moments.
