PPR Games Club: The Walking Dead

ell it’s the new year, you know, the big twenty-thirteen, and what better way to move on then to do a Games Club on our Golden Zonkey awarded Game of The Year title, The Walking Dead. Telltale was able to create a tale of misery and emotion in five episodes, and beyond all of the zombie madness, we learned what it truly is to protect what you love, no matter what the cost. Join us for this latest Games Club with Andrew, George, and special guest Dana, as we test our humanity (or in some cases, cast it aside) in this three hour spanning show where we cover all five episodes from start to finish. Come joins us and keep a box of Kleenex nearby so you can relive the trauma all over again with your favorite podcast, (or not, just listen to the show already!)

QCF: Cognition - Episode 1

hen one thinks of the classic point and click adventure games that defined the genre, a few always jump to mind. The Secret of Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle -- just to name a few. What do all of these classics have in common? They’re all well told stories with engaging puzzles, solid internal logic and memorable characters. Cognition has none of these qualities.

QCF: Kentucky Route Zero: Act 1

fter watching the initial trailer for Kentucky Route Zero back in its infancy, I thought that the overall design was interesting, and according to its Kickstarter page would be “a magic realist adventure game”. Fast forward almost two years later and what Kentucky Route Zero has become is something far more than what I could have imagined. A meaningful presentation that keeps the narrative in the forefront, and a game that plays out like an eerie adult pop-up book. Interactive narrative may seem like a buzz word seen too often in the games industry in the last few years, but trust me when I say that Jake Elliott and Tamas Kemenczy of Cardboard Computer are doing exactly that. The result of which is some of the finest storytelling in gaming so far.

Coping with "The End"

ame over, huh? We know the feeling. You completed every quest and every achievement. Aside from your final task, you did everything.

Soon as you kill the last guy, it's over. No more epic quests and story expansion. All that remains is an empty void filled with hollow credit rolls. No matter which game you’re playing, it never gets any easier if you’ve made it this far.

Life Through The Pixel Glass-01/09/2013

elcome to the latest edition of Life Through The Pixel Glass. Wait, hold on; say what? I hear we’re going to see some proper Pokémon releases on the 3DS? Let’s hope that Nintendo does more than add some glossy visuals and transitive three-dimensional perspective, because if that’s the case then the franchise may start hammering nails in its own coffin. Don’t misunderstand, I am actually excited for this entry as opposed to the lack of interest I shared with the last generation, but imagine how amazing it would be if Nintendo implemented cross-platform play with the Wii U and released Pokémon X/Y on it as well. It would blow your mind and you know it. Anyway, on to the feature.

QCF: Street Fighter x Mega Man

ega Man has been all but a whimsical phantom during 2012. 2011’s cancellation of Mega Man Universe followed up by Capcom terminating the sequel to the Mascot’s cult-favorite franchise, Mega Man Legends 3, had many Capcom supporters and players scratching their heads as the 25th anniversary of the blue bomber was fast approaching. Reality for Mega Man only seemed grimmer since Keiji Inafune left Capcom, and the only significant appearance the beloved character made in 2012 was in a cross-over fighting game cameo that went a step further to depict him in a parody that caricatured a particularly unfavorable appearance from his past.

QCF: Scribblenauts Unlimited

th Cell created quite the stir with Scribblenauts, a handheld puzzle game that mostly bound within the limitations of your imagination, when it first hit the scene in 2007. The latest installment, aptly subtitled Unlimited, gives you the tools to launch your imagination gloriously from the depths of your cortex vault and onto the screens of your television and Wii U gamepad.

While Scribblenauts Unlimited just may be the finest example of the concept utilizing all of the grand potential it has to offer, the advantages that the Wii U has to offer for the software are overlooked to an offensive degree. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate a game where you can ride a narcissistic robot Pegasus with a flamethrower equipped or play a game of chess with a depressed clown while wearing a frog suit, but in the end you’re still left with a bitter taste of restraint and disappointment. And this time, it’s inexcusable.
