PPR Presents Play Play: Gladmort Press Kit Demo

2025 sure has been a banger year for the Neo•Geo, like—we’ve got Final Vendetta, Vengeance Hunters, and the game in our latest entry of Play Play: Gladmort, by Chipsonsteroids and Pixel Heart.

George had the opportunity to check out a slice of this action title for SNK’s black-and-gold wonder, courtesy of a demo provided by the developer, where he played it with original hardware via the NeoSD Flashcart from Teraonion. Check out what he has to say about it, and all of the ways you can scope out this game now, regardless of whether or not you have what may be the most expensive retro console to own.

PPR Presents Limelight: Har-Fest 2023

Hey all, with the incoming flood of “October 31^st Vs November 1^st” memes hitting the timeline, we are vastly approaching the Holidays, and with that, I think it’s time we usher in the first Limelight block in years—aptly titled, Har-Fest Month!

QCF: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

I find it pretty funny that I’m writing this review mere weeks after the Dreamcast’s 24th Anniversary; I mean, not just that in that granular humor from a well-timed coincidence sort of way, but in that I’m still seeing one of my favorite consoles live on through a legacy that dwarfs its flash-in-the-pan lifespan. Even though it was released two years into the 128-Bit Machine’s reign, Jet Grind Radio left quite the impact in 2000, as it quickly became a must-have exclusive for the platform and yet another reason to attract anyone over to SEGA hardware instead of Nintendo’s or Sony’s offering.

After an underwhelming sequel and years of Fan-service cameos, SEGA’s frenetic Graffiti-racer has mostly lived on as a garnish for the repeated servings of nostalgia surrounding the Japanese brands’ peak years. Given that the property has undoubtedly had more of an impact than SEGA had accounted for, it was only inevitable that one studio would set out to tag the spot Jet Grind Radio had left untouched for twenty years.

Netherlands studio, Team Reptile, answered the call, & endeavored to produce a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast Cult favorite with Bomb Rush Cyber Funk, an improved open-world take over the middling attempt we saw out of Jet Set Radio Future, with a freestyle approach to progression. The end result isn’t just a fresh approach to a familiar classic but a practical reinvention that improves upon its source material in nearly every single way.

PPR Presents Limelight: Atomiswave Dreamcast Ports

o we totally know there’s a lot of hype for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and they’re currently the biggest deals in video games right now, but what if we told y’all that there was another big deal happening in the gaming scene right now—one that involved another household name in consoles…

Hacker alias MegaVolt85 from the Dreamcast-Talk Forum has taken it upon himself to convert all twenty-seven titles released for Sammy’s short-lived Arcade Haardware line, the Atomiswave. After some extensive review of the Coin-ops internal workings, it would seem that the system’s architecture is nearly identical to that of Sega’s 128-bit icon, making it possible to reformat the coding of these titles to natively run on the Dreamcast.

Yes you read that right, these games aren’t being emulated or ported, they are conversions that’re running natively on Dreamcast hardware—shit’s wild ain’t it?

PPR Presents Lime Light: Ecco: Defender of The Future

ince we’re going all out, you don’t mind if we squeeze a Limelight out, I mean…it’s not like we’ve done one of those for a while, right? Well, the game in particular that we’ll be showcasing for our trademark stream is a bit obscure but it was also a majority vote among the followers of Press Pause Radio; Ecco: Defender of the Future. This was the last the game that starred the heroic dolphin of destiny and was the only three dimensional affair as well, it was kind of impressive on the Dreamcast for its day, but we’ll see how well it’s held up during the Limelight! So, with the console reaching its 10th anniversary, we've been reading that some people were considering on snagging a Dreamcast while the anniversary fever is still fresh, as they lament missing out on the 128-bit beast in its prime and going with the PlayStation 2 instead. The entire crew at Press Pause Radio still have the Dreamcast hooked up to their console setups to this very day, and thought, yeah, why don't we do a Dreamcast retrospective! Please, if you haven’t purchased a Dreamcast and are at all considering purchasing one, we will be doing a one-time thing only after the next Press Pause Radio Top 5 segment that we think you're all going to enjoy! Episode 8 of Press Pause Radio will be going over a list of the ten must-own games for the Sega Dreamcast, along with sharing a ton of memories we've had with the system as early adopters.
