PPR Presents Play Play: PAC-MAN 256

hether it’s some bratty millennial, or a crotchety-ass geriatric, there are a few things within pop culture that these two wildly different demographics will often times share knowledge of—they’re both aware of a particular yellow humanoid sphere with an insatiable appetite.

PAC-MAN has been a staple in video games since it first hit the arcades all those years ago, and if the new title from Hipster Whale, PAC-MAN 256, is any indication of the famous circle’s current status-quo, then he’s rest assured to continue as a staple into the future of gaming.

Ser and Georgie whip out their smartphones, and show off the new title, and it’s modernized spin on a very familiar formula, and talk about why it’s one of the coolest surprises to come out of 2015.

PPR Presents Play Play: Heroki

emember when Sega had a full supply of wacky and zany characters at their disposal, and they would be mascots to a bunch of wild, and creative new gameplay mechanics and systems that you didn’t see anywhere else?

I mean, that’s not to say that every single one of them were good per say, but hey, they were different, and the latest title they’ve published for the iOS store definitely brings back some shades of that old Sega.

Join Georgie and Stevie as they spin, float, and jettison their way through the colorful world of Heroki; an adorably deformed good guy who put his sense of justice to work, all by using his goofy-ass helicopter head—check it out!

PPR Presents Play Play: Skylanders: Trap Team

n a generation of gaming where the combination of the words “toys to life” holds more weight than a Fisher-Price-ass looking plastic music instrument; it will always circle back around to the adorable little plastic troop of creeps that pioneered the trend from the very beginning—Skylanders.

After three titles releasing a year after the other from one another, the title to proceed the upcoming Super Charged tapped into a colloquial sensation that has proven to appeal to all ages—trapping creatures against their will, subjugating them to fight your battle for you.

Dark, but true; so join George as he escorts Andrew through the world of Skylands, and the mechanic of switching out toys on a glowing pad to advance through a series of obstacles, fights, and shit, and stuff.

Here’s to hoping that Andrew will spend even more money on a hobby that drains him emotionally, and physically…it’s fun!

PPR Presents Play Play: Assault Android Cactus

hat do you get when through in colorful robot heroes, bright danger lasers, and a struggle between good and evil that has absolutely nothing to with cacti? You Android Assault Cactus of course, the feverishly fast-paced, brightly colored Twin-stick shooter from Witch Beam Games.

Join Ser and George as they blast their way through the gauntlet of levels and challenges that await within this indie love-letter to  old-school shooters, all the while George makes some shitty references to Code Lyoko…

PPR Presents Play Play: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

t’s always a joy when the west gets a Final Fantasy game that they originally missed out on, and the deal sounds even sweeter when the game gets an HD facelift to boot; which is why it’s disappointing that this long lost Final Fantasy gem is so disappointing, and violent too.

Like, weirdly violent, if adorably birds being bloodied death doesn’t sound like a good time, then consider this your trigger warning, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD has lots of this shit from the start…

Ser and George attempt to find the fun that the game has to offer, and discuss design elements that they feel would be more ideal for an action RPG title (and they’ll try to find as many as they can in this pretty mess of game too.)

PPR Presents Play Play: Titan Souls

he thrill of pushing against overwhelming odds to the brink of death is a fantasy that anyone fan of a good action tale can relate to, but there is such a thing as overkill, and Titan Souls is a prime example of running a bit too far with the concept.

Join George and Ser as they stumble through the pixelated ruins of giants and monsters in Acid Nerve’s Titan Souls, and try to make sense of all death suffered in the process—it’s the kind of shit that will break you from the start.

PPR Presents Play Play: Tiny Dangerous Dungeons

hile it’s easy to dismiss the vast majority of retro-inspired indie love letters available as of late, I feel like the sentiment is still far from accurate. It’s kind an almost-trend of where the accusations of pandering or creative stagnation flood the discussion of this pseudo sub-genre, and  hopping on board with the consensus is one of the more common displays of low-hanging fruit that I’ve seen on both the community, and industry fronts of video games today.

Which is why it warms the heart to seen a game that’s solid enough to stand as an exception to that very inclination, and Tiny Dangerous Dungeons from Adventureislands is that title. This particular Play Play is solo one with George at the helm, as he wanted to share the game with everyone in a way where the a video was the better format over a “Late To The Party” feature when it comes down to conveying all the thoughts he has about it. Enjoy the sporadic Play Play and be sure to find the game and buy it to support the developer if you like what you see in the video!

PPR Presents Play Play: Mortal Kombat X

The amount of progress that Netherrealm Studios has accomplished with the Mortal Kombat brand and it’s respective fighting engine is something that no one can deny. I mean, no other game has passionately embodied the phrase “shit gets real” quite like Netherrealm’s current offering, and we decide to get in on the madness.

Getting in on the cutting edge action of MK X, we discuss the visceral visuals of the franchise hitting the latest generation of gaming and the tech it offers, the evolution of the Kombat system (seriously, we can’t help ourselves) and the shelf life that X may just have for the year of 2015. It’s another Play Play, so kick up your feet and press that play button already.
