PPR Presents Limelight: Mortal Kombat II for the 3DO

ith all of the hype around the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection (and ting of controversy over its input lag issues) we thought that instead of going the more sensible, topical route, we would do something completely different and dumb instead—like streaming the port of Mortal Kombat II developed for the 3DO!

An independent developer by the name of “3DO HD” has been putting in 2+ years of work on a “retail-grade” version of the arcade classic for the 3DO, including new bespoke features that are original to the game like new stages and gameplay modes! George is again on the sticks, and he’s had a lot of good things to say about it, so we’re excite about the bloody good time in store for this entry of Limelight!

PPR Presents Limelight: Ghost of Yōtei

or anyone keeping score, Ghost of Tsushima is considered to be one of Press Pause Radio’s favorite PlayStation exclusives, so when Ghost of Yōtei surprised announced on a random State of Play, we were feverishly excited for the sequel to say the least.

Fast forward to October where every new video game in the history of forever has seemingly launched, Ghost of Yōtei  has hit the shelves during a quarter that’s just CROWDED with holiday releases, and yet we’re absolutely pumped to give it a nice spot for the slot of this week’s Limelight.

PPR Presents Limelight: Ball x Pit

K, so here’s something a little more current—one of stand-outs in the recent ID@Xbox showcase was a game that I could only describe as the Peanut Butter and Pickles of indie action titles: Ball x Pit. Like, the word salad that came out of George’s mouth when he talked about it with the rest of the PPR crew that was both outlandishly wild, and strangely accurate at the same time.

Imagine a Bullet Hell, Rogue-Like Arkanoid-esque vertical-scroller, with intermittent life-sim city/resource building ala Actraiser…

If that reading that sounded crazy to you, imagine typing it out for y’all to glean upon—either way we’re really excited to scope it out!

PPR Presents Limelight: Friday the 13th

eah, we know this is a weird choice for the beginning of November, but work with us—shit’s been kinda nuts this year, and we’re still working out some of the scheduling kinks. Anyway, one of the more infamous titles in the NES library, this Limelight will feature Friday the 13^th, the consensus on this game is surprisingly still pretty mixed. Does it rip? Does it blow ass? Georgie wants to say it’s a little bit in between those two verdicts, and just firmly sits at a very tense “it’s Okay.” One thing is for certain though, George has never survived all three nights so he’s going shoot for the bloody moon and try to beat this challenging chunker of a horror movie licensed cart live for y’all to “Oooh” and “Ahhh” at in the chat.

PPR Presents Limelight: Silent Hill f - NG+

pooky month may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some late-ass horror for fallback weekend now can we? This play through is a little different: the game under the limelight for this stream is Silent Hill f, however, Georgie has already done one run through of the game, so this will be a New Game Plus that he’s saved just for Limelight! The mastermind behind the When They Cry series of media, Ryukishi07, has penned this entry of Silent Hill and while the review is still being penned, we’ve heard great things from George, so this should be an interesting watch!

PPR Presents Limelight: Hollow Knight: Silksong

he indie equivalent of Shenmue III and Half-Life 3 is out! The meme is officially dead! Everyone’s favorite chat spam has materialized, and the sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania Sleeper is here!

Hollow Knight: Silksong is FINALLY a thing, and everyone’s kinda freaking out about it. Join George as he dives headfirst into the gloomy, labyrinthine journey that’s sure to be filled with all of the cheap enemy placement and tricky wall-jumps you could ever imagine and then some! The jury is still out on whether or not the wait was worth it, but one thing is for sure—the amount of hype and joy for this release is feverish, and we, for one, cannot wait to see what all of the hullabaloo is all about!

PPR Presents Limelight: Doom: The Dark Ages

025 is jam-packed full of huge releases, but one particular release appears to have come and gone from the gaming water cooler, and that’s DOOM: The Dark Ages.

The latest entry of the modern take on the FPS giant amps the frenzy of DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal by adding even more mobility options, and a Marvel Hero-ass Shield that you bash and parry with, and of course, even more DOOM guy lore to set the latest stage of hell in. George and Andrew will be hosting tonight’s limelight, with George on the sticks and Andrew on the side-cans, where they’ll chop it up on the newest entry of the violent shooter franchise.

PPR Presents Limelight: Virtual Boy Wario Land

his year makes the Pearl year for the Virtual Boy folks—yeah, that’s right—thirty friggin’ years of the Nintendo misunderstood 3D-enhanced 32-Bit platform. Now, we here at Press Pause Radio are no strangers to romanticizing the goggled little tripod-ass tripoding shitpost of a video game system, but this year just so happens to coincides with the same year we achieved our bog boost in video and audio production. Which means we now have hands on a consolized Virtual Boy that’s been RGB-modded with Furrtek’s Virtual Tap mod and Retro Onyx’s wireless Virtual Boy controller!

So what game are we going to ring in the special occasion with? The obvious one of course! George and Sean are going to get down with Virtual Boy Wario Land, and chop up all of their memories of the platform and its current status in the current pantheon of gaming culture (or they might just sigh a lot, the Virtual Boy just kind of brings it out of them.)
