Nothing is Working, Everything is Broken

ey everyone, I’m sure you’re all slightly confused as I have no doubt that you’ve already read the title of this feature post, and what it naturally suggests, and that’s understandable. Which is why that I have decided to begin with a disclaimer what I’m trying to accomplish in this peculiar admission of mine, and some important bits of clarification that are real crucial to the meaning behind it.

I have spent weeks trying to write a fair, and objective review of Assassin’s Creed Unity to be published on Press Pause Radio, and have now reached a point where I no longer feel comfortable with the idea of doing so.

After giving it a considerable amount of contemplation and consultation among other members of the crew, I’ve reached the decision that this game is just too broken for me to just grade on a scale of the scale of quality that we typically adhere to.

In other words, the amount of shit that’s unabashedly broken and fucked in Assassin’s Creed Unity his hit a point with me, one where it is beyond any redemption or worthwhile attempt at to plodding through the unbridled mess that is, regardless of any merit that could be mined out of the content’s intent alone.

QCF: Pokémon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby

n what has gradually bloomed into somewhat of a subtle tradition from the gaming giant since the Gameboy Advance’s prime, the Big N has enlisted their subsidiary Game Freak, into unleashing yet another modern revamp of a past chapter out of their golden child’s past, for the latest incarnation of Nintendo’s pocket hardware.

While last year’s stellar X and Y entries went on to prove why the Pokémon brand is still a household name though, the inevitable remakes of franchise’s Ruby and Sapphire generation that we anticipated has sadly failed to keep the momentum that those previous titles had lent them.

No, what Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby does instead is quite the opposite, it falls victim to a wonted flaw that has infrequently plagued Pikachu and his Poképals in more recent years of the now tenured property—complete and utter fatigue.

QCF: Chariot

he concept of royalty truly is a fascinating distinction within humanity’s self-imposed hierarchy over the years. The prestige and responsibility it demands is a balance of finesse and leadership that’s equally important to both sides of the crown—even when that crown might rest upon the head of a self-absorbed, entitled narcissist.

Enter Chariot; a grand mission of tribute to the fallen king, undertaken by his two most loyal retainers, as they drag and push their majesty’s wagon-eered coffin, towards the perfect resting ground for burial so that the matriarch may finally move on to the afterlife.

While the whole thing may sound like a glorified escort mission at first impression, the reality is a delightfully heartwarming test of wits and resilience against the law of physics against a lump on wheels that’s essentially an out-of-body extension of you and your buddy’s skills and abilities—with an added test of friendship thrown in for good measure.

QCF: Cherry Tree High: I! My! Girls!

f you dig Persona the way I do, 773's Cherry Tree High Comedy Club was a game that should have grabbed your attention last year.

It sported a social link-styled system that closely resembled Atlus' masterpiece game-changer, though its setting is obviously much less dark. I had always felt that a little something was lost in translation with Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, but it was fun nonetheless. With its moderate success, Nyu-Media saw fit to bring over the sequel to Cherry Tree High Comedy Club to Steam and other platforms as well, in the form of Cherry Tree High: I! My! Girls!.

QCF: Hatoful Boyfriend

ll right, I'm sure you were all waiting with baited breath for this review for a very long while. You probably wanted to know who it was actually going to be, what whacked-out commentary they'd have about a Dating-Sim that features male friends of the feathered avian variety. Well, it's me—and here's my review of Hatoful Boyfriend.

In Japan, Dating-Sims are a pretty big genre, and have been popularized on such systems as the PC Engine and Saturn, with many such entries as Tokimeki Memorial and Wizards Harmony (the latter we actually have over here with Team Duo.) Hatoful Boyfriend is the one of the latest games to take part in the rising movement of Dating-Sims, and kinetic visual novels that are being localized for an American audience, particularly on PC in specific.
