It’s really easy to fall into this rut with Video Games right now. Every podcast episode this year has brought in this frivolous bout of yoga where we try not to take y’all TOO deep into Bummertown™, lest we risk forever remaining within its shitty doom-dome and get gypsy-cursed to forever scroll through Grummz’s feed on Twitter, A Clockwork Orange-style, or some shit.

This is why we have found ourselves championing the phrase “Video Games can still be fun, and all you have to do is to keep looking” lately—so much so that we decided to put our money where our mouth is and do a nice little episode where we give our own shotgun course towards Retro Video Games—specifically what games to check out and various methods to check them out.

The cast this week is Ed, George, and our special guest, Ten, who is an indie game and indie book reviewer for The Cosmic Circus, and co-host of the Hold On, Let Me Save podcast, where they’ll discuss the various equipment, displays, emulators, and uhhh, games that folks should still boot up to play from the last forty years or so of video games.  So grab your Anbernics and your Steam Decks, and get ready to add a bunch of HAMSTER releases to your wishlist as we do a fun little show to remind everyone that yes, video games rule. QCF: Mouse P.I. for Hire

Relax, everyone, I solved the case! Troy Baker is the voice actor playing the role of the hardened, fondue-sipping war hero-turned-private-investigator protagonist of this game. I knew I had heard that voice somewhere, so it was a big surprise when I checked my search engine, er, I mean the board of clues, and came to that deduction. Spending hours of time in the world of Mouseburg in Mouse P.I. for Hire as an anthropomorphic mouse detective will make any player feel like they’ve jumped into a noir crime drama.  In the influence of games like Cuphead and the playstyle of Bioshock with big animated set pieces and exploration of a world out of a time capsule, this title has something for every player.

Right before Geoff Keighly kicked off his Summer Throat Stroke™, we all scrambled to gather some of our thoughts on what we’ve been playing while we can because unlike the droughts we’ve seen in the years before 2022, we’re in for a flood of titles dropping onto shelves this summer.

2021 is a good reminder that even if you’re welcomed to the JAM that you don’t have to go and SLAM, especially when it’s something that’s more of a diluted paste of tacky cameos than a Jam. Getting to the topic at hand, This week covers the biggest news stories of late, and man oh MAN is the current scene of the Games Industry is one that’s ripe for a reckoning, and rightfully so. The reveal of the State of California’s lawsuit against Activision-Blizzard that was two years in the making reveals a litany of gruesome details regarding the Corporation’s toxic “frat-boy” culture, and we do our best discuss the situation while also doing our best to highlight all of the voices of the Women and POC who need to be heard at this time.

We also share our impressions of Valve’s new hardware, the Steam Deck, which may just be the closest thing to a “Nintendo Switch Pro” we’re going to get. We also get into what’s been in our Consoles, which includes Gameboy Interface, Metroid Fusion, Marvel’s Avenger’s, Pokémon Unite, Cotton Reboot, Blaster Master Zero 1-3, Dariusburst Another Chronicle, Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, BioMutant, The Xbox Series X, and so much more.
