PPR 87

hen it it’s hot, and nothing new is happening, the day just goes by slower, I mean, what exactly do you do with that kind of time? We have a few suggestions, but we decide to try and poll our answers together like a bunch of assholes; Press Pause Radio has the summer doldrums, and we talk about what our plans are during this break in games—and of course, our stupid backlogs too.

Aside from talking about stuff like the World Cup, The ‘Noid, and EVO 2014; we also argue over Mighty No. 9’s stupid funding campaign, Watch Dogs, California Extreme, Shovel Knight, Potato Salad, Mario Kart 8, and World of Warcraft—it was an episode that had a lot more range than usual. Persona 4, The Wolf Among Us, Bravely Default, Another World, and other games also get talked about a lot, along with Andrew being a new daddy and the idea of actually going outside…on a video game podcast? Yeah, it’s true, we really do entertain the subject.

QCF: The Wolf Among Us-Episode 5

he fifth and final episode of The Wolf Among Us Season One released recently, however I have been having some difficulty in finding time to enjoy the conclusion to this adult themed fairy tale. I have not been able to decide if the reason is due to the newborn baby that rocks next to me as I write this review, or if it is because I’m afraid of how this will end. As Sheriff Bigby Wolf, I have made some mistakes, and I’ve hurt people that may not have deserved to be hurt. I’ve also attempted to do the right thing, and to make justice my top priority. However now we find out if that was all really worth it; if doing the right thing means that the wrong person has to suffer and if the big, bad wolf is human or just a vicious animal.

QCF: Life Goes On

ired of survival horror, first person shooters, and basically every other video game forcing you to stay alive in order to play? Life Goes On takes the conventional gaming strategy of trying to survive as long as possible and turns it around - to beat the levels, you have to kill your character several times, and use their corpses as stepping stones to get to the prize. Morbid? Yes. A metaphor for capitalist society—possibly…but aside from being an interactive existential social commentary on our pointless lives, it can also refreshing and fun.

QCF: Conquest of Elysium 3

onquest of Elysium 3 is an old school turn based strategy game. Swedish developer, Illwinter Design Group, released the game back in 2012 with many small updates and tweaks since. Versions have been created for windows, linux, mac, and most recently android.

At the start of the game, you can tinker around with the map editor or jump right in with a randomly generated world. Similarly, you can take some time to explore the 17 different character classes or get going with a randomly selected one. You really are left up to your own devices here. Blindly play and learn as you go or devote some reading time to a wiki/forum to familiarize yourself with all the ins and outs.

Bullet Heaven HD, Episode 103 - NYXX

ndie games always have an uphill battle for recognition, especially when they're not backed by bigger publishers like Rockin' Android and Nyu-Media over services like Steam and Playism. Infinite Vile's NYXX is one such game. How does it stack up?

PPR Presents Play Play: Warioland 4

ore Wario, All the Wario, well..not all of them, but—you, you guys get it. Anway, next up down the pipeline of our Garlic chomping anti-hero is Warioland 4, a game mostly designed towards being technical showcase for what the Gameboy Advance can really do similarly, to how Super Mario World was for the SNES.

It’s just as charmingly weird, and there’s some other shit going on too, but, we mostly get distracted over our argument of Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid but, who’s keeping score on that anyway.

PPR Presents Play Play: Virtual Boy Warioland

o, your eyes do not deceive you; somehow, we were able to capture Virtual Boy footage without making the red beast have awkward intercourse with a camcorder or anything. As an intermission to our Vanillaware block, we’re going to highlight some of the best games to star Mario’s yellow doppelganger, Wario, and what better game to start us off than one of the dirty goon’s cult classics; Virtual Boy Warioland.

As we bring up memories of Nintnedo’s first confused outing into 320bithardware, we also discuss Michael Phelps which somehow lead to blood-doping, 2.5D games, Lawnmower man, and how much Stevie really dislikes New Super Mario Bros.
