PPR Presents Play Play: Super Mario 64 HD Unity Fan-Game

andom can certainly be a bit overzealous at times, especially when it comes to those who exhibit their devotion in ways that’re a bit unhinged; and then sometimes, it can truly be such a wondrous thing. In order to rigorously play test a new character controller schematic he was coding, a programmer by the name of Eric “Roystan” Ross decided to code a demo that would not only serve as an effective environment for testing, but one that would pay tribute to a gem from his childhood.

A high-definition overhaul of Super Mario 64’s first map, the Bob-omb Field, and boy is it pretty.

It’s a real shame that it had to be taken down so soon after Nintendo slapped the studious developer with a Cease & Desist, luckily, Georgie got some time to check it out, and show you guys what the fuss was all about in this quick little Play Play edition of the demo from Press Pause Radio!

PPR Presents Play Play: Hudson Selection Vol. 3: PC Genjin

his is the fourth day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

Exclusive to the land of the rising sun, The original title that started it all received a remake on the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube, and boy did Hudson take a lot of weird liberties with the visual style—which is kind of cool, but mostly disturbing.

Eh, it’s still pretty cool, but whether or not that it’s worthy enough to faithfully substitute the charm of the original is up for debate, and dammit, do we do just that! Why don’t you guys just go on ahead and click play now to check it out!

PPR Presents Play Play: Bonk's Return

his is the third day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

As strange as this may sound, this is the most recent entry into the stone-age hero's dynasty of games was java-built mobile title called Bonk’s Return; we're talking Motorola RAZR status here. With some finangling on our end, we bring to you that title for your viewing pleasure, and well, we don’t know how to feel about it, and if anything, it made us really scratch our heads over how bizarre the mobile climate of games must have been during that dark, sad time.

Bullet Heaven HD, Episode 128 - Armed Seven

rmed Seven precedes Gigantic Army, which we took a look at in episode 98 of Bullet Heaven HD. As a side scrolling shooting game that laid the foundations for its run-and-gunning successor, how does it fare?

QCF: The Order: 1886

t’s safe to say that gaming is continually reaching new levels of spectacle and showmanship, and that next plateau of tech is never too far out of reach as the medium advances; it’s just too bad that the medium has a ways to go when it comes to expanding upon new concepts and ideas that are afforded by the advancement.

Ready At Dawn’s The Order: 1886 is a perfect example of how to squander such an opportunity—a technical achievement in presentation and production that’s sadly held back by an antiquated sense of design.

I’m fully aware of just how harsh that opening statement sounded, but that’s the take away that this PlayStation 4 exclusive left me with, and it didn’t take long before I came to it either.

This may sound cliché, but The Order’s greatest strength also happens to be its biggest weakness; the cinematic direction of its pacing and world—a trade-off that just isn’t worth it.

PPR Presents Play Play: Bonk's Adventure Arcade (Kyukyoku!! PC原人)

his is the second day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

Bonk’s Arcade, (or in this case, Kyukyoku!! PC原人 because it’s way more common than its North American counterpart) is the first title not to have been developed by RED Entertainment, as it was handled by Kaneko. While the core gameplay of Bonk is here, there are ton of unique features that’re exclusive to this title like a non-linear stage selection, and a playable female Bonk character for the second player—join us we hop in and get our asses handed to use by the cruel mistress that is 1990’s Arcade game design.

PPR Presents Play Play: Super Genjin 2 (超原人 2)

oday marks the jump off for our special Play Play look at the Bonk series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

The first game to kick off this event is Super Bonk 2 (Super Genjin 2-超原人 2 for all the cultured folk out there) on the Super Famicom, and it also happens to be one of the titles that hasn’t seen a western release either. We all know that Super Bonk is weird as shit, this sequel is somewhat in the middle as far as we’re concerned, eh…you guys be the judge.
