Bullet Heaven HD, Episode 139 - Mushihimesama

n episode 79 of Bullet Heaven HD, we took a look at the Xbox 360's Mushihimesama Futari, an awesome region free shmup from Cave. With the original Mushihimesama seeing its first home release on the Playstation 2 and an HD remaster produced for Xbox 360 in 2012, none of them would be region-free... until now!

QCF: WWE2K16

s the months go by, I’m learning more and more that I’m not the only one who’s found an interest in professional wrestling again, as I see more and more of my friends and associates hop on board with the craze, keeping tabs on their favorite performers and their status quos, and so on.

The WWE and 2K are well aware of the trending popularity that Sports Entertainment has been receiving, and as such, have taken measures to capitalize on both the newfound fame it’s seeing, and the effervescent nostalgia for one of wrestling’s most iconic figures, Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Enter the latest entry into the brand’s game franchise, WWE2K16; a sequel that hopes to correct last the significant misstep that was last year’s title into the series—and well, it tries, I’ll give it that…

I can safely say that WWE2K16 is better than WWE2K15—marginally though, only, marginally.

QCF: Everybody's Gone To The Rapture

s the scene fades in, you stumble out into the tranquil beauty of the Yaughton countryside in Shropshire, England—investigating the irony of an environment that’s devoid of all human life, and yet breaming with the vibrancy of nature itself is the only thing that keep the unsettling tone from escalating into anything that.

This is the landscape of The Chinese Room’s latest adventure game, Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, a disorienting mystery behind the disappearance of an entire village, and the grisly clues that have been left behind—it’s an experience that will leave you thinking, and somewhat shaken.

From the people behind the atmospheric voyage of Dear Esther, the independent studio places a different spin on the apocalypse concept that no other title has slowed down enough to explore in great detail—the human condition.

QCF: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

here are certain names that you read or hear of with games, that possess a modicum of pedigree to its brand, and in turn, they’re guaranteed an opportunity to cement a legacy within the industry and culture, that will endure for years to come—Tony Hawk Pro Skater is such a brand.

Which is why the prospect of a sequel returning back to the roots of the series humble beginnings since the original release fourteen years ago, sounded like an idea that was just begging to print money for Activision this Holiday season.

Too bad that this sentiment couldn’t be farther from the truth; Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is bad, like, soul-crushingly bad, to be honest with you folks, it’s poop from a butt.

And there isn’t a single excuse for it either—regressing the physics of an engine that’s been awarded for its intuitive physics and the fundamentals of its design is an insult to the franchise that’s supposedly being celebrated for the next generation.

QCF: The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes

uper Mario isn’t the only Nintendo property that’s hoisted its share of spinoff titles, because there’s certain green-clad hero of legend that’s inching right behind him. In addition to titles like Link’s Crossbow Training, and Hyrule Warriors, the Legend of Zelda franchise has experimented with multiplayer in Four Swords; a cooperative adventure that up to four friends can play, and a fan favorite to this day.

As the online connectivity of the Nintendo 3DS continues to expand, it was only natural that Nintendo would revisit the idea, and add a different spin to it that would distinguish it from its predecessor; The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes, where three players can work together to solve puzzles that focus on verticality, and well—not much else.

It would seem that the concept didn’t have a whole lot of steam left in it after all as Tri-Force Heroes only manages to recycle familiar dynamics with some superficial additions thrown in, within a networking system that’s actually regressed in terms of performance, and reliability.

QCF: Guitar Hero Live

everal times in the last week, I attempted to give my television a high five. I may have also waved at it at some point, or it waved at me maybe? To be honest I really did not expect that sort of response to the live-action that is a part of the GH Live mode in Guitar Hero Live.

Truthfully, I really thought that at first glance, that it would be cheesy and unnecessary.

Funny to find out that it creates moments that I feel like the genre was created for and is an important part of a title that creates the video game equivalent of a 24-hour music video channel, with an immediate sense of immersion that only falters with questionable paid content.
