PPR 7th Year Anniversary Special: Grandma's Boy Commentary

even is a lucky number for an anniversary year right? Well, I wish that sentiment was a bit closer to the truth, but 2016 has been it a bit of a bummer for some on a number of different levels—especially for George (seriously, send that guy “Hang in there” Cat meme or some shit on Twitter whenever you get the chance.)

One of which happens to be the loss of Doris Roberts, the senior actress of Everybody Loves Raymond fame; and because of this, we decide to record commentary for another role that she’s also best known for…a little film by the name of Grandma’s Boy.

George and Andrew argue about whether or not they still hold this movie in any high regard at all, while they sit back and see whether or not Ser’s enjoying since it was his first time watching this happily-schlocky Happy Madison joint. Between stories of recreational drug use, Nick Swardson shade, Grandma’s Boy trivia, Thrill Kill shout outs, and whether or not Uwe Boll looks like that fucking guy who played Damien Darhk in season 4 of Arrow.

This was one hoot of a show, and honestly, probably one our favorite commentaries that we’ve recorded yet.

I know we’ve said it before (and will most likely say it again the actual anniversary podcast), but the countless nights of editing, writing, laughing, and crying would not have been possible without you guys—I’m sincerely grateful for everyone who has supported us. The T-shirts and posters are still being made but will hit the store really soon (we’re really sorry about the wait!) I’m truly blessed to have PPR, all of us here are, and it’s all thanks to you lovable shmucks.

Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. QCF: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

t’s weird to think that Naughty Dog’s modern-day, prize winning property has become ten years old in 2016. It only seems like yesterday that we were teased with screenshots of the first entry in development in Electronic Gaming Monthly when it was code named BIG (hell, I even remember that weird brief stint where the name “Dude Raider” was seriously being considered as a title.)

But low and behold; what some panned to be a pandering attempt at building what appeared to be a male foil to the iconic Tomb Raider franchise as flagship exclusive, turned out to be one of the most successful properties to have ever carry the Sony brand instead.

And now it’s at an end—A Thief’s End to be exact. While Drake’s Deception managed to deliver more of the spectacle and action that the franchise is famous for, it was still very much a sequel that mainly geared at delivering more of the same.

Uncharted 4 drives towards something different though; finality, and it doesn’t simply settle at doing this this with flashy action or over-the-top production value, it does it with the one element that I think best defines Uncharted, charisma.

We’re talking pure, unadulterated, captivatingly charming charisma…

QCF: DOOM (2016)

ou ever heard the term, lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same spot? Well, it’s true, and the connation behind the idiom is meant to infer just how hard it is to reproduce the impact of something memorable like that lightning strike; so to add to that, for the sake of this argument, let’s just say that this “lightning strike” we’re referring to is the original DOOM that released way back in 1993.

The original DOOM was monumental, it forever changed the landscape of video games, and what anyone could ever perceive out of them—as you kids would say, “that shit was straight LIT.”

Needless to say, the DOOM franchise became a household name, and has remained one for years to come, regardless of how hard it’s been for the series to successfully transition into the modern age of shooters—a shit ton of shooters mind you.

While Doom 3 failed to do that, this new eponymous reboot has not; in fact…

Doom (2016) is one of the most refreshing breaths of fresh air that you can experience out of a shooter in today’s saturated climate, like, this game has no business being as good as it is.

QCF: Code of Princess

reasure's games seem like such a distant memory. Their last original game, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (Wii) was released all the way back in 2010, with nothing more than re-releases of its now-ancient properties seeing release since.

One such game, Guardian Heroes, would see a release on Xbox Live Arcade, finally making it available to the masses for a very affordable price compared to its original Saturn release. Fast forward to 2013; Code of Princess debuts on the 3DS, by way of Atlus games. It features nearly carbon-copy gameplay to Guardian Heroes with a neat ragtag cast of interesting characters, led by the practically unclothed Princess Solange. It was also a pretty limited release, all told, which is where Degica Games' newly released Steam version of the game comes in.

QCF Hardware Review: Antlion Audio ModMic 4.0

here are very few things that I'm really picky about in life, but one thing that drives me mad is terrible audio quality. A great many headsets – with Turtle Beach headsets in specific - have atrocious sound reproduction, often with washed out mid tones, breathy, shrieking highs and not enough bottom end. The result is a nasty migraine if listened to for too long. Even then, the microphone quality can suffer even on higher-end headsets, no matter the cost. Without going to a $350.00+ solution with a very expensive cardioid or ribbon mic, a good set of headphones and a mixer to bring it all together via USB, could there actually be a way to marry an existing, great-sounding set of headphones that you already use with an excellent quality mic instead? Which now leads us to the big question; what if you could do it for just $50?

PPR Presents Play Play: Killer Instinct-Season 3

he torch has been passed once again, and now it would appear that Iron Galaxy will carry on the support and development to the latest episodic entry into Microsoft’s exclusive modern fighting franchise with Killer Instinct Season 3—and thankfully enough, it’s just as exciting, if not even more enjoyable than ever before.

And honestly, how could you not freak out about a game where you can play as a Battletoad that gets to up on the Anti-hero from Halo 2; shit’s dope y’all.

Andrew and George hash out their thoughts on this new edition of KI, the state of the Fighting Game scene; including how badly they wanted to like Street Fighter V more than they actually did, and more in this latest Play Play from Press Pause Radio.
