Bullet Heaven EX, Episode 33 - Caladrius Blaze

It was a toned down version of a super fanservice heavy vertical shmup that was a little light on content but super approachable and pretty fun. H2 now brings the restored Caladrius to western audiences with Caladrius Blaze, featuring all kinds of extra goodies, less censorship and restored VO. But how does it stack up?

PPR 100

WWWWWWW SHIT YOU GUYS! Did you hear? No really, did you hear! That one thing that’s coming out, it’s going to be so rad, like; the…RADDEST! No foolin’ I mean, err, wait what, you mean that it’s actually not as cool as I thought it was going to be.

Wait, wait, now you’re telling me that it sucks—oh….

Oohhhh

On our hundredth (yeah, our official one-hundredth episode) we go on to talk about the unavoidable phenomena that is hype, and how it usually gets spearheaded in our face within our screens, phones, timelines, and worst—your fellow people. In addition, we decide to pit Candy Apple Faygo and Lime & Cucumber Gatorade against each other, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Sun/Moon, Gamescom, Metal Gear Survive, Inside, Galaga Wars, No Man’s Sky, Tekken 7, WarFrame, the leaked PlayStation 4 Slim, AM2R, and so much more.

It’s another long one you guys, settle in, and grab the right drink, (you know which one) as you listen to us on our “hundredth” show!

Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. QCF: Mirror's Edge Catalyst

hen DICE first showed off Mirror’s Edge, it was a pledge to turn whatever we thought about first-person adventure games on its head; guns weren’t the focal point, your sense of momentum, and imagination was.

The premise of a parkour-driven resistance fighting against the Big Brother-like tyranny of an all-powerful government regime created a setting that complimented both the presentation and gameplay wonderfully, delivering what could be considered one of the most criminally underrated experiences to be had in the last generation.

That’s not to say that Mirror’s Edge went entirely unnoticed, as it garnered a dedicated following despite the lukewarm success it saw commercially, and the promise for a sequel kept fans foaming at the mouth for years—and well, it was…kind of worth it. Expanding Mirror’s Edge level design into an Open-World template only seemed like the most natural course of progression that the series could take, but the execution of the approach is a bit too clunky to justify the anticipation this entry had going for it these last couple years, and it’s a damn shame.

QCF: INSIDE

t isn’t often that the visual style of a game in motion can be so evocative to the mind, and on that same token, so indicative to the disquietude that lingers after your each, and every move on screen—it’s a feeling that’s eerie, yet fascinating.

Playdead’s latest venture for the Xbox One delivers that sort of vibe in every sense you could think of, and then some—the spiritual successor to LIMBO is an evolution in every aspect, from its enthralling puzzle design, to its chilling conveyance of atmosphere.
