QCF: Bit Trip Presents... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien

"
ove at first sight” is such a cliché. I've never been one to fall for such a ridiculous notion, nor have I ever admitted to its true existence. Sure, you can like how something looks, but usually there's something underneath what can only be seen that's actually quite ugly. However, I was proven wrong on this theory when, at Logan International Airport in Boston after PAX East 2012, I booted up a copy of Bit.Trip Saga and played Runner for the first time. The delightfully retro visuals, silky game play and unbelievable sound had me seriously hooked. It was love at first sight. At that very moment I had a very sudden lamentation; Runner 2 was at the show, and I totally missed out.

After travelling across the entire continent to Seattle for PAX Prime 2012, I finally got to play the follow up of Runner, and it was definitely worth the journey and the wait. Fast forward to today, and it's finally almost time for Runner 2 to drop across multiple platforms. And let me tell you, this is a game that everyone – absolutely everyone – should be playing.

QCF: You Have to Win The Game

f you grew up with gaming in the late 80s and early 90s, many descriptions come to mind: simple, colorful, entertaining, addictive, and frustrating. The above statements represent everything You Have to Win The Game stands for. J. Kyle Pittman set out to create the perfect throwback of every delightfully addictive yet frustrating game he experienced as a child. With subtle hints of gaming pleasures from everything between the Commodore 64 and the NES, it’s safe to say he succeeded.

QCF: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

he Sons of the Patriots, a network hive mind that controlled the nanomachines of every soldier active in any PMC established through manipulation and subterfuge, disappeared four years ago, and yet PMCs live on. What was once the age of nanomachines has now been advanced into a whole new realm of technology -- Cyber-biotic integration through cyborg application -- and ushered into a new age of peace, PMCs are now a means of private security for preventative measures. Raiden, a man who endorses these ideals of preventative maintenance through aggressive means of security, is currently tasked with his latest mission protecting African Prime Minister N'Mani as he rallies his efforts to prevent civil war and continue the peace. But of course, things don't always go as planned.

QCF: Dungeonland

do not enjoy amusement parks. I know that must sound crazy, but hear me out here. You wait in line for hours just for a few minutes of being tossed around in a metal box that can be sometimes a tight fit for people my size. The food is always overpriced, the crowds are unbearable and by the end of the day you just wish that you would’ve spent the day doing something else. Oddly enough, that’s the feeling you may have after playing a few hours of Dungeonland. Although some ideas seem fun and the concept on paper is enticing, it fails to keep the excitement going for very long.
