QCF: Happy Wars

Strategy games offer some of the most interesting multiplayer experiences known to gamers. Players constantly rearrange techniques and gameplay elements to cater towards their own unique style, while continually grinding for experience, items, or whatever else guarantees victory over time. Some gamers, however, could do without the genre altogether, as it usually entails mastering an overly complicated time sink with prerequisites like “quit life.”

That’s where Happy Wars come in; it’s far from advanced MOBA titles like League of Legends, but enough to get casual players interested in deeper waters while assuring that (some) veterans remain entertained -- if only for a moment.

QCF: New Little King's Story

Why is Obama always complaining about creating jobs? It’s so EASY in New Little King’s Story! Though, I’m a pretty great king. All of my subjects love me, even if I constantly lead them into dangerous situations for my own personal gain. I also get my pick of seven princesses, all bidding for my heart. I’ve even got my own big, fancy throne! It’s good to be the king. Even a little one.

QCF: Resident Evil 6

This review was a freelance assignement, written by Joshua Newey from Sega Addicts. Be sure to check Sega Addicts out by clicking here!

Few franchises have had the same growing pains as Resident Evil. While the first few titles initially garnered solid reviews for their groundbreaking qualities and resonating atmosphere, their now-maligned “tank controls,” flimsy puzzles and pre-rendered visuals makes it feel somewhat disingenuous and anachronistic to list them amongst my favorite games of all time.

Maybe that's why the series continues to struggle with the same identity crisis that's been slowly growing since games like Code: Veronica. With one foot set firmly in B-movie sci-fi horror, and the other shifting deeper and deeper into the cinematic world of dramatic camera angles, explosive set pieces, and muscle-bound heroes, Capcom seems increasingly unsure about how to help the series grow without shirking its roots or driving a wedge between itself and its longtime fans.

QCF: Joe Danger 2: The Movie

Lights, Camera, Cliché! As the mine cart’s wheels begin to bellow with friction against the tracks, Joe finds himself back in the spotlight filming his very own movie. Pretty sweet gig, too, unless you count the grenades and lava pits. Hello Games is at it again with the sequel to 2010’s PlayStation 3 timed exclusive indie hybrid of Trials and Excitebike; and while the original Joe Danger offered a straightforward take on racing with some platforming, Joe Danger 2 takes that that concept and accelerates it to new levels of depth. The result, however, concludes to a sputtering mess when the dust all clears…

QCF: Retro City Rampage

I’ll give this to Retro City Rampage; it delivers what it promises. Retro City Rampage begins as the protagonist, Player, travels back in time to the 80‘s -- the time nerds won’t let us forget. Following orders from the crime boss Jester (reference) and the absent-minded Doc Choc (reference), Player must complete a series of missions to rebuild a time traveling Delorean (reference) and return to his own time. Along the way he’ll kill, steal, and quote the hell out of anything that stands in his path.

QCF: War of the Roses

Have multiplayer games given you the cold shoulder? Are the typical players online too interested in their kill to death ratio to provide a challenge? Thankfully the “bros” are not playing War of the Roses, the latest release from Fatshark and Paradox Interactive. The player will side with either the House of York or the House of Lancaster as both factions wage a bloody war for control of the throne. Although this title has a limited range of features, the core gameplay and frantic action is enjoyable and provides a very different approach to multiplayer gaming.

QCF: NiGHTS into Dreams HD

Any Sega Saturn fan worth his or her salt has seen, heard of or played Sonic Team's NiGHTS into Dreams at some point. Like many of the best cult classics out there, it took a while for NiGHTS to achieve mainstream popularity despite critical success, and it became a title that was well respected and sought after long after the Sega Saturn died.

When Sega began porting Saturn and Dreamcast classics to this generation's systems, NiGHTS into Dreams almost instantly became one of the most-requested titles by fans. For years they begged and now, Sega has finally delivered with NiGHTS into Dreams HD.
